AMS Parent Update
Friday, October 16, 2020 From Mrs. Debra Regier, Principal
At their meeting on October 12, the Andover Board of Education voted to bring Andover Middle School students back to in-person learning, five days a week. We have been working to modify our procedures and spaces to facilitate doing this in the safest way possible. Here are a couple of the main items that involve parents:
The building will still open at 7:25 a.m.
We recommend that car riders with last names A-K use the front entrance, and car riders with last names L-Z use the north side (vocal room) entrance to assist with social distancing and congestion. Please use these routes for both dropoff and pickup. See map for details.
Teachers will ONLY live stream/ZOOM with students who are absent for COVID reasons - these must have been communicated to the AMS School Nurse:
Student tested positive
Student is a close contact of someone who tested positive
Student is a household contact of someone who tested positive
Student is awaiting a test result
Other absences (regular illness, trips, activities, etc.) will be treated as they have in the past - students required to get assignments from the teacher.
Parents must continue to notify the office about any absence from school.
AMS Conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, October 28 from 4 - 8 p.m. and Thursday, October 29 from 7:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with a teacher lunch break from 11 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The morning of Thursday, October 29 will be reserved for ZOOM conferences by request. In-person conferences will not be scheduled in advance. If you would like to request a ZOOM parent-teacher conference, please fill out this request form by noon on Wednesday, October 21.
Girls Basketball Tryouts and Wrestling practices begin on Monday, October 19. If your student plans to participate, he/she will need a physical form in the office AND FinalForms completed online prior to October 19.
Please make sure your student’s Chromebook is completely charged overnight. Students are expected to come to school with a fully-charged Chromebook each day. It is also helpful for students to bring their charger with them in case they need to recharge at some time during the school day.
If you need assistance with a broken or damaged Chromebook please reach out to the AMS Library/Media Center for assistance. If your student is having difficulties with digital assignments, apps, or other digital content, please contact the classroom teacher. If the classroom teacher is unable to resolve the issue, the teacher will contact a district technology specialist.
Reminders to parents of students with incomplete Student Health History Forms were sent out on Friday, Oct. 2. Please complete if you have not already done so. LINK
