WEEKLY PARENT UPDATE

Welcome to the 2022-23 School Year!  Can you believe how fast the summer went?!  Ready or not, here we go!  This is the AMS Weekly Parent Update you can expect to receive every Sunday afternoon at 4:00 PM during the school year.  This is a simple newsletter designed to keep you informed about important dates, school information, and other helpful reminders.

UPDATED INFORMATION!
STUDENT IDs
ONLY STUDENTS WHO ARE NEW TO THE DISTRICT will need to have student IDs made. All other students will have an ID that will be printed by the district and will be distributed on the first day of school.
Dates for students new to the district to have IDs made: Open House on Aug.10th or on Aug. 11th.

SCHEDULES NOW VISIBLE IN POWERSCHOOL
Schedules are now visible in PowerSchool.  If there are any changes that are needed, please email the counselors.

SCHEDULES MAY CHANGE
Schedules in PowerSchool are not considered final until the first day of school.  We will be reviewing class sizes and enrollment up until the first day of school.  Therefore,  It may be necessary, in order  to balance class sizes and to accommodate our enrollment, to change student schedules.

STUDENTS RECEIVE PRINTED SCHEDULE ON FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL   
Please log in and refer to the student class schedule in PowerSchool. The office will not print schedules for students before the first day of school.

OPEN HOUSE - August 10th
For 6th Graders:  4:30 PM - 6:00 PM
For 7th/8th Graders:  6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Open House is a come and go event that will allow you and your child to practice their locker combination, decorate their locker, meet the teachers, walk their schedule, and drop off supplies.  We will provide a printed class schedule and a map of the building upon your arrival.  Please enter through our main entrance this evening.

4:30 PM - 7:30 PM
They will have plenty of cool treats available for purchase. LINK

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL - 6th Graders & 7th/8th Graders New to AMS - Thursday, Aug. 11
This is an orientation day. Alternate activities will take place - students will receive and walk through abbreviated class schedules in the afternoon.

SCHOOL IN SESSION - “A” DAY - ALL STUDENTS - Friday, Aug. 12

TRAFFIC - DROP OFF - PICK UP
Construction is currently occurring along Andover Road in front of the AMS building. If you are dropping off and/or picking up students be sure you are allowing enough time to compensate for the additional traffic caused by the construction.  LINK TO MAP

CAR RIDER DROP OFF AND PICK UP before 7:50 AM and after 2:25 PM occurs only at the back of AMS at Door D. Students should never be picked up or dropped off in the front parking lot or drive before 7:50 AM or after 2:25 PM. The front lot is reserved for buses, bike riders, and walkers before and after school.  Please note that Door D closes at 7:48 AM and late students will enter through the front entrance and enter the office to sign in and receive a tardy pass.  LINK TO ATTENDANCE POLICY IN STUDENT HANDBOOK - PAGE 6

ATHLETIC PASS
Please consider purchasing an Athletic Pass through AMS. Passes purchased through AMS directly benefit sports in our building.  LINK

PARAS NEEDED!
AMS is in need of paras. Please contact Brett Foster fosterb@usd385.org or harmonm@usd385.org if you have any questions. Follow this LINK to a short video with more information. LINK to application.

DRESS CODE - New for 2022-23
Please refer to the dress code on page 10 of  the AMS Handbook. Students will be expected to adhere to the dress code and will be asked to change clothing if in violation. LINK TO HANDBOOK

FOOTBALL EQUIPMENT CHECKOUT
Football equipment checkout will be the following days/times:

8th Grade - Thursday, August 11th - 3:30 PM
*Students should enter through Entrance E and proceed to the Wrestling Room.

7th Grade - Friday, August 12th - 3:00 PM
*Students should report to the wrestling room after the final bell.

Relay Parent Portal for Parents
